Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn thanked the UK for including Cambodia in its Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) as the two countries are set to celebrate their 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year.

The GSP is a preferential tariff system which provides tariff reduction on various products in order to promote exports from developing countries.

Sokhonn met with Amanda Milling, Minister for Asia and the Middle East at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UK), on August 4 on the sidelines of the 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) and related meetings in Phnom Penh.

“The Deputy PM thanked the UK for providing Cambodia with the GSP status, which has contributed to the development of Cambodia-UK trade ties. He also appreciated the UK's continued assistance to Cambodia's socio-economic development, health, mine clearance activities and education,” said the foreign affairs ministry’s press statement.

Both ministers expressed satisfaction with the healthy and excellent diplomatic relations the two countries have been enjoying. They suggested having joint activities to commemorate next year’s 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries.

The two ministers also exchanged views on various regional and international issues of common interests and concerns, ranging from ASEAN-EU and ASEAN-UK relations, the situation in Myanmar, security developments in the Indo-Pacific and the Ukraine Crisis.
